Taylor Swift is consoled by Selena Gomez after Grammys performance (2024)

Taylor Swift was spotted wiping away tears of frustration after her Grammys opening performance.

The singer mouthed 'I missed a note' to a friend behind her as she sat back down in the audience after singing Out of The Woods to the star-studded audience.

Swift, 26, took her seat next to bestie Selena Gomez who tried to console her as she shed a couple of tears.

In a video clip of the moment the songstress is seen in her sparkling black stage outfit as she sits down in the crowd with her audio earpieces still hanging around her neck.

She looks visibly upset as Gomez, 23, tries to comfort her.

When a pal in the row behind leans in to ask her a question Swift is seen mouthing the words 'I missed a note'.

The Blank Space hitmaker was back on form later in the night, however, when she slammed Kanye West during her acceptance speech for album of the year.

The rapper husband ofKim Kardashianinfuriated the pop star after he released a track about having sex with her and claimed he made 'that b*tch famous'with his 2009 MTV Awards stage invasion.

Swift had branded West's song Famous as misogynistic and denied that she had approved the lyrics as he had claimed

During her acceptance speech Swift said: 'As the first woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammys twice, I want to say to all the young women out there, there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame.

'But if you just focus on the work and you don't let those people sidetrack you, someday, when you get where you are going, you will look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there. And that will be the greatest feeling in the world. Thank you for this moment.'

After Taylor's performance, The Weeknd was up next and belted out renditions of his hits I Can't Feel My Face and In The Night.

The singer performed solo after his surprise guest Lauryn Hill cancelled at the last minute.

The 25-year-old singer and rapper wore a simple black tux while rocking his signature edgy hairdo.

Andra Day was the next to step on stage as she did a duet with Brit songstress Ellie Goulding.

The ladies sang Ellie's hit Love Me Like You Do and wore contrasting black and white outfits, Ellie with lots of sparkle and Andra wearing luxurious fur.

A variety of stars then took to the stage to pay tribute to Lionel Richie.

Kicking it off was John Legend who crooned Commodores hit Easy before Demi Lovato stepped up to sing Hello.

Lionel, 66, was spotted in the audience tearing up with emotion as Lovato, 23, sang the lyrics.

Also hopping on stage for the tribute was country star Luke Bryan, who joined Lovato to sing Penny Lover.

Meghan Trainor was next up and belted out Lionel's hit You Are while Tyrese Gibson brought some energy to the act as he joined her to sing Brick House by Commodores.

Finally the legend himself joined the group to sing his hit All Night Long.

Seventies hitmakers Earth Wind and Fire received a small tribute too, coming from soul legend Stevie Wonder who sang alongside group Pentatonix.

The remaining band members watched from the audience during the song That's the Way of the World in honour of their late band-mate, singer Maurice White, who passed away earlier this month.

Singer Jackson Browne joined Eagles members Don Henley and Joe Walsh to perform well-known hit Taking it Easy.

By the time Kendrick Lamar had taken to the stage to perform, he had already racked up five Grammys.

The 28-year-old rapper bagged awards for Best Rap Performance, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, Best Rap Song, Best Music Video (with Taylor Swift for Bad Blood) and Best Rap Album.

Adele wowed the crowd with a rendition of her song All I Ask.

The 27-year-old singer showed off her slimmed down figure in a sparkling red gown.

Next up was Justin Bieber who stood on the circular stage to give an acoustic version of his hit Love Yourself.

The pop star then slammed his guitar down and ran up to the main stage to perform Where Are Ü Now alongside a percussion band and violinists.

The 21-year-old singer won his first ever Grammy during the night - best dance recording forWhere Are Ü Now.

The most highly anticipated performance of the night however was Lady Gaga, who sang a medley of hits for a David Bowie tribute.

The 29-year-old diva sported a variety of colorful and zany outfits to sing hits such as Changes, Rebel Rebel, Fashion and Fame to name just a few.

Meanwhile, earlier in the night, Taylor hit the red carpet with her BFF Selena Gomez.

The duo sported very different but equally stunning looks for the biggest night in music; Selena in glittering blue and Taylor in a gorgeous two-piece dress.

Taylor, 26, debuted a brand new hairdo for the night, a super blunt bob with neat fringe.

She showed off her midriff in a Versace two-piece consisting of an orange-red bandeau top and billowing hot pink skirt which revealed matching hotpants.

A delicate beaded choker accentuated her slender neck and she wore towering gold platforms for extra glam.

And of course Taylor added her signature red lip to complete her Grammys look.

The centre slit in Taylor's skirt was reminiscent of her Grammys look last year, a blue-green Elie Saab gown which opened to reveal a mini skirt in matching hue.

Selena, 23, chose a plunging Calvin Klein number with spaghetti straps and cut-outs at the waist.

The Texas-born beauty wore her long brunette locks in pretty curls and accessorized with hoop earrings.

The Come & Get It hitmaker told E!'s Ryan Seacrest that she picked the dress that would be good for a date, adding 'my date is Taylor Swift'.

Seacrest asked for the scoop on Selena's Valentine's Day plans to which she replied: 'I was actually with my best friends, we're all single.

'I actually had to go to a few dinners for all of this [Grammys] madness and then I just hung out at the house.' she added.

Earlier in the day Taylor managed to score the first Grammy win of the night - best pop vocal album - at the awards' pre-telecast.

The pop diva immediately tweeted 'I AM SCREAMING' upon hearing the news on the phone from producer pal Jack Antonoff.

She then celebrated the triumph with pal Selena, sharing a video to Instagram.

It showed the two in dressing gowns freaking out over winning best music video for Bad Blood.

Bleachers and Fun frontman Jack - who turns 32 next month - called the Shake It Off songstress from the stage of the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

'What?! We won! We won pop vocal album!' Taylor exclaimed via speakerphone - according to AP - before asking: 'Is James Taylor there? Can you tell James Taylor I love him?'

Antonoff co-wrote Swift's 1989 tracks Out of the Woods, You Are In Love, I Wish You Would, as well as her 2013 song Sweeter Than Fiction.

And the 5ft10in blonde famously cast Jack's girlfriend Lena Dunham as the cigar-chomping 'Lucky Fiori' in her epic Bad Blood music video last year.

The Pennsylvania-born belter is still up for five more trophies - including album of the year - and she'll serve as opening act for the ceremony.

Lip Sync Battle's LL Cool J will host the celeb-packed 58th annual Grammy Awards airing live on CBS at 8 p.m. EST.
