Overall, the iPhone 15 Plus boasts a significant upgrade over its predecessor in a couple of key departments - display, battery life, performance, main camera and charging.

It's still nowhere near the Pro lineup, and it's missing features such as this year's chipset, the optical zoom camera, the autofocus on the ultra-wide camera, the 120Hz high-refresh-rate screen that comes with Always-On Display, or the new customizable Action key. Depending on your priorities, the lack of some of these might be a deal-breaker for you.

The iPhone 15 Plus is one really niche device, but if we had to pinpoint one key feature – it would be its really impressive battery life. And then adding the well-rounded specs, we think have a winner here.

The Sony Xperia 10 V scored the #5 rating in our old all-time top 10 battery life chart. If you are a fan of the iconic thin and tall, extra light design on the phone, there is just nothing else out there in the midrange space to offer an alternative. Similarly, the 21:9 display aspect ratio remains a pretty exclusive spotlight feature.

The Xperia 10 V finally has a stereo speaker setup and a pretty good one at that - front-facing, well-balanced and decently loud, with a clean output. Making a return - the great ingress protection rating is hard to come by in midranger space. The same is true for a telephoto camera, let alone one that does a decently good job quality-wise, like we are seeing on the Xperia 10 V.

Unfortunately, the Xperia 10 V has a handful of shortcomings - most of which are carried forward from its predecessor. Things like the lack of a high refresh rate - a 60Hz display are unacceptable on a phone of this price segment in 2023. Then there is arguably the biggest Achilles heel on the Xperia 10 V - the Snapdragon 695 chipset - the exact same chip from the Xperia 10 IV that was hardly an adequate choice then and is even less so now. So much so that the otherwise clean UI of the Xperia 10 V struggles to run and animate smoothly. Plus, the annoying 1080p video capture cap stems from a chipset limitation.

The Xperia 10 V not a bad phone, and it's undoubtedly got a few standout selling points that may tickle you just the right way - like the unusual form factor or the amazing battery. Plus, the Sony badge still has some extra weight to it - enough to mitigate the cost difference with alternative devices. If you are someone who might fancy any of those, then we'd say the Xperia 10 V is worth a (cautious) recommendation.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

True flagships seldom make the Best battery life list, especially Android ones, but the Galaxy S23 Ultra changes that. It's an unmatched package that includes pretty much everything you could think of wanting in a smartphone, including impressive endurance.

Naysayers will point out that it charges too slowly, but that's relative - it's notably better in this respect than iPhone or Pixel competitors, which is arguably what matters. Maybe the Ultra's worst offence is that it's not all that different than last year's model.

That said, the S23 Ultra offers a couple of incremental upgrades here or there, while keeping the basics that already made the S22 Ultra superb. Small tweaks in the design bring meaningful improvement to handling, while the new 200MP camera is more than just a megapixel increase over the old 108MP unit.

The new camera is just one in a set of five and together they deliver possibly the most capable camera system in a smartphone overall. The S Pen may not have brought any new features, but existing ones are plenty and it's not like there's any stylus-wielding competition. The spectacular display rounds up a top-class showing when it comes to the fundamentals too.

The Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max managed to ace our battery life test and it had to be on this list. It has a sturdy and now lighter design, one outstanding OLED display and top-notch performance, plus - its triple camera is one of the best options there are right now, especially if video capturing is a priority.

The Apple iOS is not for everyone, and the fast charging is not that fast - this means it's not all good news for the iPhone. Still, for its great endurance rating and flagship traits, it deserves a spot on the list.

The Sony Xperia phones usually ace our battery life test, be the new or the old one, and the Xperia 5 V is no different. The incredibly compact Sony Xperia 5 V is a minor update over the Xperia 5 IV - it brings a more powerful chipset, newer Gorilla Glass panels, and an improved main camera at the expense of the retired zoom one. Luckily, 2x zoom is still present, with excellent quality at that.

The Xperia 5 V can also be considered a cheaper alternative, and a more compact one, to the flagship Xperia 1 V with a larger 4K display and a proper telephoto with variable zoom.

The Xperia 5 V has one of the best designs on the market - it's a timeless classic with a lovely grip, an impressively compact form factor and a very secure grip. The all-round ingress protection is greatly appreciated, too.

Then there is the cutout-free OLED with excellent properties. Sony hasn't figured out the variable refresh rate just yet, but judging from the outstanding battery life, we think not many users will hold this against them. The latest Snapdragon chip and RAM will always come in handy, as well as the improved thermals. We like the new stereo speaker setup a lot. And the audio jack. And the microSD expansion.

Most importantly, the Xperia 5 V delivers on every camera promise. It snaps some of the best photos a smartphone can offer in both day and night conditions, across all cameras at that - primary, ultrawide, selfie. Furthermore, the 2x zoom turned out excellent for photos and good in videos, too.

Another in a list of phones that don't quite entice us in its entirety, the Moto G84 is well worthy of a recommendation if you're after longevity. It's not a bad phone, of course - the Snapdragon 695 SoC performance is about adequate for the price bracket; the 6.5-inch OLED is color accurate and gets very bright; the clean Android experience is attractive too.

There are faster phones in this price bracket, though, and there are offers with better cameras. But the Moto G84 is still worthy of a consideration for its all-round package, loud speakers, and excellent battery life.

The €190 Redmi Note 12 5G is a solid all-rounder with little to complain about. It has a solid OLED panel, decent battery life with very good Screen-On Times, competitive fast charging, a dependable main camera and a dedicated microSD card slot.

The affordable price and the good Screen-On Times are the reasons for including this Redmi Note 12 as a viable entry here.

Xiaomi has struck a pretty nice balance with this year's Redmi Note 12 4G. The handset has an excellent display, long battery life, sufficiently fast charging, adequate performance, the latest MIUI + Android combo (unlike its siblings) and, although largely unimpressive camera performance, it's still rather decent for the price bracket. We wish more work went toward optimizing the dedicated Night mode. We also wonder why Xiaomi removed the stereo speakers and the NFC. That last bit may be a deal-breaker for some of you who use the phone for contactless payments

The reasoning for including the 4G Redmi Note 12 here is the same as the 5G alternative – it is super affordable at about €150 and it has great battery life, especially when it comes to video playback. And that’s why it deserves a spot here.

Samsung Galaxy A54

We weren't strictly fans of the Galaxy A53 as a follow-up to the A52s, but that didn't stop us from praising its battery life. The Galaxy A54 addresses one of the major shortcomings of A53 - the chipset, and now the new model replaces the old one in this battery champs shortlist with fewer reservations.

One of the pricier options in the class at launch, the Galaxy A54 is a very enticing package nonetheless - an IP67-rated Gorilla Glass 5 sandwich with a great 120Hz Super AMOLED screen, snappy performance, latest Android with long-term software support, reliable versatile camera setup with OIS and particularly nice selfies - there's little to dislike about the A54.

One of those things is the lack of a charger in the box - the phone supports up to 25W fast charging, but the charger is sold separately. Somewhat iffy video recording results are also a bit of a letdown, but hardly a dealbreaking offense either.

Another Galaxy joins the list of our favorite marathon runners. The Galaxy A34 is an excellent mid-ranger with IP67 ingress protection rating, stereo speakers and large battery that also translates into top-notch endurance. Its new 6.6-inch display is now bigger than both its predecessor and the Galaxy A54, and it's 120Hz as well - a nice little upgrade over last year's 90Hz.

The chipset choice on the Galaxy A34 is also working in its favor. While the new Samsung Exynos 1380 does manage to offer a bit higher performance in the A54, the Dimensity 1080 inside the Galaxy A34 holds its own. Plus, it offers great power efficiency, hence why A34 is here. The A34 also rocks the latest Android 13 and One UI 5.1 combo, chock full of extra features, and with years of promised software support.

The Samsung Galaxy A24 4G is an affordable offer with outstanding battery life and has a nicely rounded specs. We did like the 90Hz AMOLED screen - it turned out smooth, color-accurate, and quite bright. And the clean, no-nonsense design could be a potential showstopper for some, too.

The Galaxy A24 4G offers superb battery life, and its charging speed is adequate for its price range. The battery, coupled with the energy-saving chipset, could be a real treat for many users who value longer runtimes on a single charge.

The Galaxy A24 also surprised us with a good photo and video quality from the main and selfie camera, while its ultrawide and macro shooters turned out to be more of a gimmick rather than a useful feature.

What we missed on this phone is 5G connectivity and basic ingress protection. The single speaker is notably quiet and has unimpressive sound quality, too, and the phone is a bit sluggish, maybe due to its 4GB RAM. Still, at that price point, we really can't expect more, and we think Samsung has put everything that's possible at €190 into the A24 4G model.

Realme 11 Pro+

The €500 or less Realme 11 Pro+ turned out to be an excellent smartphone with a charming design, modern specs, a flagship camera, superb battery life and incredibly fast charging. We also appreciate the promise of two major Android updates and three years of security upgrades.

We liked the design; in fact, we found the Realme 11 Pro+ quite easy to love. The phone offers a bright and color-accurate OLED, the speakers sound nice, the battery life is excellent, and the charging is incredibly fast.

That's not all, of course. The Dimensity 7050 5G chipset, while not the fastest in this price bracket, is adequate for a mid-ranger and provides smooth performance all-around. The doubled base storage is much appreciated, too.

The main camera is the real showstopper on the Realme 11 Pro+ - it's as flagship as on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, and the photo and video quality are as premium as it can get these days. The ultrawide and selfie cameras do offer a good experience, too, but they are more fitting to the mid-range class, which could be a letdown for some.

There are a few omissions on the Realme 11 Pro+ - splash protection and electronic stabilization for the 4K video capturing on the main camera. And, yes, it could have been a faster phone, but we won't hold the rebranded chipset against it, we promise.

We have plenty of positive impressions from the Realme 11 Pro+, which easily sweeps over the few imperfections we found along the way. If you want one of the best cameras in the mid-range class, coupled with a truly one-of-a-kind design, great battery life across all on-screen tests and super-fast charging, you should get the Realme 11 Pro+.

If you liked the Realme 11 Pro+, but you don’t want to spend that much, then you should consider the €330 Realme 11 Pro for pretty much the same reasons. It is another exquisite smartphone that easily impressed us with its design and look, its excellent OLED screen, snappy hardware, a good main camera, great battery life, and a large battery with fast charging.

The Realme 11 Pro aced our display and battery tests, it did well when it comes to speaker and performance, and its main camera turned out to be a solid performer even if it had its hiccups like the poor video stabilization or the lack of it in 4K, the over-processed photos at times, also the noisy Auto Nightscape images.

Still, despite these shortcomings, the Realme 11 Pro is a great smartphone with a standout design that will not disappoint.

Asus Zenfone 10

The Zenfone 10 continues in the footsteps of the 8 and the 9 and brings heaps of performance into an easily pocketable package. Its small size doesn't get in the way of achieving excellent battery life, the Snapdragon chip isn't all too bothered by the compact body, and there was room for the usual headphone jack, but also for the addition of wireless charging.

All that is great, but there's just not a whole lot of new stuff about the Zenfone 10, and some of the new stuff rubs us the wrong way. We're not entirely sure that the gaming-only 144Hz refresh rate on the display counts, and we most definitely aren't thrilled about having to change the camera section heading from 'AF all around' to 'AF gone'. And while allowances can be made for the absence of a zoom camera on a phone that small, that argument wears thin next to competitors with proper triple-cam setups.

Still, getting this Zenfone 10 is not a bad idea at all. It remains part of a relatively short list of phones catering to customers prioritizing compactness over everything else. And it does deliver flagship specs and promising performance across the board. Read full review

Nothing Phone (2)

The Nothing Phone (2) is an excellent sequel and a tempting offer in a pretty over-saturated market, especially around the €600-€700 range. The phone has something that no other phone, well, except Phone (1), has, and that's the Glyph UI. Even better, the LED functionality has been expanded, and it's a really cool and convenient way to see what's happening on your phone without looking at its screen.

The Phone (2) has a larger and brighter LTPO OLED display, with a much more adaptive refresh rate, a welcome update over the Phone (1). The most notable upgrade is the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 flagship chipset, which makes working with the Phone (2) a breezy experience, gaming included.

Then there is the improved battery life, which we now consider as an excellent one. The richer audio from the stereo speakers. And better photo and video quality across the board. Let's not forget the faster 45W charging speed.

The Nothing Phone (2) also impressed us with the fluidity of its Nothing OS 2.0 - it's so clean, simple, and fast.

The Nothing Phone (2) is not without its issues, though. First - it does not support High Frame Rate gaming, which is a bit disappointing considering the capable hardware platform. The Phone (2) is still not water-resistant despite the now higher ingress protection rating.

The Glyph UI remains the most important thing of any Nothing Phone. You either love it and use it, or you don't, and then the Phone (2) becomes an offer like any other. If you have no use for Glyph, we've explored plenty of alternatives and are sure some will fit your needs and budget.

But if you do, or you just want a breath of fresh air, an innovation of sorts in an otherwise boring market, the Nothing Phone (2), or (1), will not disappoint you. On the contrary, the Phone (2) offers a thoughtful pick of features with a pinch of premium and two of innovation, and that's why we do recommend considering the Phone (2) and even buying it. Because "they just don't make them like the old times" does not fully apply here.

Oppo Reno10

There is plenty to like about this €400 Oppo Reno10. Its display offers a great HDR experience and the sizeable 5,000 mAh battery offers dependable endurance and excellent on-screen battery times, and speedy top-ups, of course. And while it won't be topping any charts, the camera setup on the Reno10 is among the most versatile around.

It also impresses with a likable design and fan-favorite features like expandable storage, IR blaster, NFC, stereo speakers.

We would have preferred some ingress protection and we think that’s our only issue with this phone. And because it has so many good sides – we do recommend giving it a chance.

The Poco M5s is an excellent all-around phone for its nearly entry-level pricing - splash-resistant design, AMOLED screen with high brightness, gaming-friendly chipset, versatile camera, and a large battery with fast charging.

There are some nice perks like stereo speakers, audio jack, IR blaster, FM radio, 3.5mm jack. And we were surprised by its good selfies and selfie portraits; even expensive Xiaomi phones cannot match these features. All these niceties for around €200 make the M5s a killer offer.

Of course, the Poco M5s is not perfect - it offers poor photo quality, and the 60Hz refresh rate for the display may be dealbreakers for many. But even with these two imperfections, we still recommend the Poco M5s for being one of the most feature-rich smartphones within its price bracket, one with an outstanding battery life, too.
